tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7636500187257034936.post3121725886528319204..comments2023-10-11T07:37:32.699-07:00Comments on Look Back to Galilee: The Religious ImpulseDavid L.http://www.blogger.com/profile/03689866575986080183noreply@blogger.comBlogger1125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7636500187257034936.post-41588404365767929252022-06-12T10:49:56.267-07:002022-06-12T10:49:56.267-07:00I stayed on Shamir in , I think, 1970– I remember ...I stayed on Shamir in , I think, 1970– I remember it was not 69 as that was Woodstock and I was here for that—- could have been single most important event as it taught me who I was and, more important, who I wanted to be— worked the cotton fields, orchards, fish ponds, bee hives, and kitchen— fell in love- by the end of my time I was trusted, given use of a tractor in the late afternoons which I loaded the cart with other volunteers and went up to the Banyas to swim— Kiryat Shemona was perhaps a town of 3 to 4000— Katushya rockets were common and F-4 Phantoms the next morning flying low over the Hula Valley to retaliate were just as common— spent time with a wonderful man Moshe Kagan while he painted with tensor lights on his easel at night and I held the machine gun and flashlight—- would climb the old grain silo for best view of the valley and heights and saw a firefight with flares, machine guns, etc as the infiltrators came over the hill toward the old pillbox above us on JULY 4th—- came home and studied middle eastern history from an Egyptologist who I did not see eye to eye but we had mutual respect—— look back and smile for an amazing learning experience with about 25 other volunteers from all over the world—- and before leaving was told I was always welcome to return!!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
